RESUMO

This papers subject is sublimation in Freuds work. Our main objective was to research the concept of sublimation in Freud, as well as, some of its possible derivation along Freuds work, mainly with the introduction of the death drive at the psychoanalysis field. Therefore, it is emphasized the concept of sublimation and its consequences at what we understand as the Freudian second drives dualism, after 1920. The question that originated this work was: if sublimation is a possible way out and beneficial for forsaking and psychic suffering, why we find writers in our clinic, in institutions and elsewhere struggling with their own forsaking (reaching at the extreme to suicide)? Aiming to answer this question, we endeavor a research about sublimation in Freudian texts, taking into account mainly the second drives theory, in which the new limits found for sublimation could help us to answer the question. To fulfill these objectives we undertook a systematic study of Freuds texts, as well as the literature of renowned commentators of Freuds work. Although it appears here as operators that allows the discussion of sublimation the scientific and intellectual investigation processes, as well as, artistic activities, all of them as possible sublimation manifestation, it was used here, as main operator, the writing. The main derivatives of sublimation explored by us in the second dualism have been the drives defusion and the possible connection between sublimation and psychosis. Here also the writing appears as an important operator. Our result demonstrate that the drives defusion, as a result potentially deconstructive of sublimation, is present in the field of the subjectivity, as well as, in the field of the culture, as death drive defusioned. In the other hand, the vicissitude of drives defusion, as well as, death drive defusioned appears to be a consequence of sublimation, yet little explored by Freuds work commentators. With regard to the connection between sublimation and psychosis, we found that it is effectively possible to think the sublimation in the psychosis, although in a different way than we would think in the neurosis. We conclude that, in order to be able to advance in our discussion, it would be necessary to undertake a bigger span research, which would consider a wider reference than the Freud work only. In this way we could study in a deeper way the possible connection between writing, sublimation and psychosis. The Freud theory allow us to advance until a certain point, but it show us directions that ask for new dialogs.
