Dental carie and enamed hipoplasia in lowbirth children / Associação entre carie dental e hipoplasia de esmalte com historico de baixo peso ao nascer

RESUMO

The dental carie is the most prevalent chronic disease in the world and although efficient methods to prevent it, the prevalence in a small group is still high. To identify the determinants factors in this group may be able to help public health actions. The birth weigh is used as a parameter to evaluate the development degree of a country, the birth weigh is the factors that has more influence in individual´s health, and can to influence in the dental formation and the immunologic system of these children, which can show hipoplasisc teeth and a major incidence of dental caries. The purpose of this study was evaluate, through a cross-sectional study, the association between dental caries and enamel hipoplasia in 3-5 old years child who have low birth weigh , on public day-care on east side of São Paulo, Brazil. The association between dental Carie and enamel hipoplasia with premature and gestational age was studied.It was investigated 184 children , both, male and female , we have found 46(25%) of them were low birth weigh, in these group 26 born preterm and 20 small for their gestational age, the control group was 138 children with normal birth weigh. The dmf-d índice was utilized to measure the dental caries and the DDI índice was utilized to measure enamel hipoplasia. The low birth weigh children were those who have <2500g and born preterm those who were <37 weeks of gestation. The midium dmft was 1,42(+/- 2,61), and 14% of the children showed enamel hipoplasia. We haven´t found association between low birth weight and dental carie or enamel hipoplasia, however , the group of small for their gestational age showed significant association with dental carie , we have also found a significant risk of carie in children with enamel hipoplasia(od = 3,60 ic = 1,520-8,560 )
