RESUMO

During the present work, some pedological alterations resulting from traditional soil management methods, were studied after extended planting cycles, on a farm in Bariri County, São Paulo. A topographic sequence was established to evaluate the importance of relief soil position for the modifications of its physical, chemical and biological attributes. Field and laboratory observations were undertaken in vertical profiles of the upper, middle and lower levels of the slope, covering an extension of 2,000 meters, planted with citrus and sugar cane crops. Morphological descriptions and laboratory analyses (particle size distribution, water aggregate stability, water retention curve, sorptive complex, water infiltration rates, micromorphology, porosity, bulk density and the soil CO2 emission), were established with some parameters evaluated by means of measure comparisons. Physical and biological alterations were evidenced, with soil bulk density modifications and grades of organic matter and aeration porosity, reflecting soil-water infiltration, especially in the lower levels of the slope.
