RESUMO

Nowadays, digital convergence is already a reality and it is becoming more accessible from both a technological and an economic point of view. The digital fusion between computing, media, and communication dictates a new world order in everything that is related to the technological evolution. Along these same lines, among many kinds of technology available, mobile devices have been the main display of digital convergence. Despite the fact they are increasingly smaller, these devices possess an ever-increasing capacity of processing, storage, display and connectivity through many network interfaces, including digital TV. When converging the digital TV to mobile devices, all inherent features of this technology are brought not only to the device, but also to the user. The ESG (Electronic Service Guide), for example, is one of most interesting features of mobile digital TV, offering to the user a service bouquet of various types, which can be accessed at any moment, from any place. However, ESGs currently work like service spammers, because, unlike the Internet, the publishing method used is âpushâ. Therefore, it is quite likely that the ESG offers to the user a large amount of services that he has no interest. Moreover, the network interfaces of the device are being underused, as much from the point of view of publication of services as in its utilization as a return channel. Their costs and intermittent availability can discourage the service consume. This work investigates the hypothesis that once defined a context aware platform for service management and execution, these services will be better selected, displayed and executed. Additionally, the network interfaces and other device resources will be better utilized, maximizing the user experience. If the platform is abstract enough, the development and publishing of complex services will be accomplished in a simpler and more rapid way
