RESUMO

In the southern part of Minas Gerais state, 19 dairies were studied with the objective to evaluate the cost to implement and to attend the Normative Instruction n. 51. Production, fixed, variable and total operational costs to build the necessary structure to attend the requirements of the Normative were estimated, as well as alternative and economic costs, milk price and monthly income referred to milk sale and to credit quality. Net present value, internal rate of return and payback were calculated to estimate the financial viability to implement the Normative. The equilibrium point was considered to assess the situation of the dairies related to the effectiveness of the activity. In addition, analyses of milk composition such as protein and fat, total bacteria and somatic cell count were take to screen the milk quality of the properties. The results showed that the Normative brought improvements to the producers in the region, the more the milk production, the greater the percentage of producers saying not to the implemented changes with the Normative Instruction n. 51, the expansion tank is the item with the greatest impact on the cost of deployment of the necessary structure to adapt to the Normative, the return of the investment was, in average, 8 years, 52,63% of the properties were found financially viable to attend the Normative and the different programs to encourage for improvements of milk quality adopted by creameries have influence on the economic result of the dairies.
