RESUMO

Matrix converter topologies, despite the technological challenges it still presents, offers interesting possibilities concerning volume, weight, operating temperature grade, life time and input power factor. In order to create sufficient design resources to build a working prototype, initially a brief theoretical research was conducted in direct and indirect matrix converter topology and also in space vector modulation. To enhance indirect matrix converters modulation understanding and makes its implementation easier, it was divided in function specific modulation blocks. Each blocks algorithm was validated by simulation and later implemented in Texas Instruments TMS320F2812 DSP. The switch control signals, generated by the DSP, need logical and timing adequacy to ensure proper operation of the converter. These adjustments, and a short circuit prevent module, was implemented in a XC3S500EFG320 Spartan 3E Xilinxs FPGA device. The project of the 1kW power, 5kHz switching frequency and 220V@80Hz prototype discusses input filter, clamp circuit, rectifiers and inverters switches and switch drivers, and input phase voltages acquisition. At last, experimental results of the prototype are shown by oscilloscope screens of converters waveforms, proving the topology structure and modulation algorithm operation with the obtained practical results
