RESUMO

On August 24, 1820, a revolution was triggered in Portugal that sought to transform the advisory courts of the Old Regime into deliberative courts, with the aim of drawing up a constitution for the kingdom and subject the King to the Legislative Power. In Pernambuco, the first news about this novelty arrived confusing and the repercussions were immediate, but controversial. Thus conflicting moments arose, punctuated by intense repression. At eh end of 1820, a sedition influenced by the liberal winds was suppressed and, the following year, the royal governor would be expelled, what inaugurates a government of provisional body elected in the province. Despite these events contribute to end the domination of the Old Regime, a break with Portugal was not considered by the major local political leaders. The independence only would be thought between late August and early September, 1822. This research seeks to demonstrate, based mainly in manuscript sources, some of which are inedited, that the new policies were discussed experiences in the country, particularly in Pernambuco, so originally, thanks to the emergence of a sociability and a political culture disseminated through speeches, gossips, songs, movements, parties, manipulation of symbolism and the repetition of certain ideas stimulated by the emerging doctrinal pedagogism. The techniques of propaganda, the mobilization of common citizens and the politicization of everyday life were formulas invented in order to bring the province innovations, which would become important elements of the new political experiment launched in the country from 1822 on
