RESUMO
OBJECTIVE: To describe the qualitative and quantitative consumption of macro nutritious and the total caloric value of a senior and adults Potiguara indian populationâs diet, residents in villages located in the municipalities of Baia da TraiÃÃo, Rio Tinto and MarcaÃÃo, verifying possible differences between sex, age band and place of living, besides the macro nutritious adaptation level, and finally, the contemporary dietâs main caloric source. METHODOLOGY: A series of cases type transversal study developed with a 128 both sex adult and senior indian sample between August and October 2005. The feed consumption data where obtained through a 24h recording dietary inquiry. RESULTS: There was a predominance of women and 30 to 59 years old individuals. Related to the macro nutritious and calories consumption, the study has shown a larger consumption of all items between individuals who were less than 30 years old. The diets where classified by the larger adaptation frequency in low glicidic, high protein e lipid, where the most consumed foods were: beans and simple sugars with approximately 86% of consumption in the group. CONCLUSION: In front of the evidences of an intense nutritional transition process, the development of this research will contribute to a better comprehension of the Potiguaras senior and adult indigenous populationâs actual nutrition and healthy problems and to the adequate intervention planning at this area
