RESUMO

The construction of a culture of peace constitutes in the current situation not only an option based on ethics, but also a necessity in the presence of the violent threat of the human survival. This task requests a joint effort from all, due to its vast extent. The present study intends to bring the voice of clinical psychology, through the gestalt approach, to contribute to the construction of a culture of peace. Considering the dialogue between the philosophical, theoretical, methodological and ethical fundamentals of Gestalt therapy and the proposal of constructing a culture of peace, the gestalt approach was pointed as an instrument. The philosophical perspective, humanistic and existentialist, of Gestalt therapy was emphasized. Theoretically, some key-concepts which characterize the holistic vision, as well as the emphasis in the creative and interdependent nature of the organism-environment were covered: contact, contact boundary, awareness, field, creative adjustment, aggression, conflict and organismic self-regulation. In the following, the discussion of their connections with the goal of constructing a culture of peace took place. Based on the gestalt approach, the healthy manifestation of aggression and conflict resolution were pointed as contributors to the construction of a culture of peace. The perception of these concepts as natural and necessary for the flow of life is opposed to the traditional vision that connects them to violence. Taking into account this understanding, the concepts of positive peace and negative peace were discussed. Finally, the practical exercise of Gestalt therapy, which is based on a phenomenological attitude, was viewed as an experience that manifests itself in peace and for peace. In this context, the therapeutic relationship in the gestalt approach can be interpreted as a pedagogy on how to relate in peace.
