RESUMO
This research aimed to build and validate a model for quality assessment of strategic organizational information in the context of financial organizations. It focused on identifying aspects of information management that influence this quality. Based on the work of a number of both national and foreign authors, the conceptual model built establishes that the quality assessment of strategic information involves three aspects. The first one is regarded as classification of information. The second is concerned with information assessment. Finally, there is the identification of issues that impact the quality by means of the information management analysis. The theoretical framework pointed out the procedures of the research design. It also indicated the need of adopting both qualitative and quantitative approaches. A triangulation of data obtained through the use of questionnaires and interviews allowed the ratification of the results obtained. The study, therefore, allowed drawing five conclusions that directly reflect each of the specific objectives proposed. Accordingly, it was possible to state that the population investigated (users and custodians from the institutions investigated) is comprised of well-trained people and they confirmed the concept of strategic information adopted in the research. Additionally, strategic information in the context of federal government banks is comprised of, amongst other features, information requested, formal, internal and treated, and major components of its quality are error-free and truthfulness. According to the respondents perception, the information quality level is satisfactory, the processes of information management are diversified though the management stages that most influence quality are similar. From the theoretical point of view, the research expanded the knowledge concerning information management combined with information quality and strategic information. From the practical point of view, the built model consolidates the ability to assess and measure this strategic element within bank government institutions.
