RESUMO

Knowledge-Based Systems (KBS) intend to solve complex problems through the acquisition, representation, and exploration of the expert knowledge. However, one best practical acceptance of this technology depends on the ability of KBSs to provide forms of interaction with users, such as explanation, cooperation, argumentation, and criticism, thus, allowing the agreement and the perception on the reasoning process and the used knowledge. This work presents a solution for the interactive KBSs construction that holds the definition of an architecture, the use of design patterns for interaction, and the instantiation of a unified interactive KBS development process - UPKi. The architecture for interactive KBSs defines its components and integrates requirements recommended by the Knowledge Engineering and Human-Computer Interaction areas. Basically, this integration aims at providing a method for KBS construction where interaction requirements are elicited and treated since the beginning of the system analysis. The use of interaction patterns aims at reducing the development effort with the reuse of robust and tested solutions. UPKi represents an iterative development process that allows a better control of the requirements and associated risks, besides defining how and when to reuse or implement the architecture components. The implementation of the architecture components and of an interaction pattern for Web explanation was performed, which can be reused in the development of other KBSs. The complete solution was applied in the construction of an interactive KBS for criminal agent decision making of the ExpertCop System, a geosimulator of crime level in a region of the city.
