RESUMO

This study analysis qualitatively physical and operational features of exclusive ways for buses in Modern Bus Systems MBS, aiming at contributing to researches for the creation of busways. Existing methods for evaluation of projects usually focuses on only in an economical point of view, without considering physical, aesthetical and social attributes. The approach developed here is based on Lancaster Theory, which considers that the utility of costumers is directly related to the goods and services features, and not to the goods and services themselves, as assured by the Traditional Costumer Theory. To conduct the proposed investigation, it was intend to identify physical and operational characteristics from the point of view of the user, relating it to the operational efficiency. Results were obtained by correlating information concerning the ways, vehicles and operation of the analysed systems, taking into account the bibliography available, collected data and technical visits conducted in Porto Alegre and Curitiba. Conclusions deals with the relationship between physical and operational characteristics associated to ways performance regarding speed, capacity, and traffic flow, contributing to the analysis of projects and studies for exclusive ways for buses.
