RESUMO

This work aims to comprehend the school failure issue from a psychoanalytical perspective. Focusing on the psychoanalytical identification mechanism, I analyze the discourse of three women whose children were referred to the speech therapy clinic by their schools because of their reading and writing learning problems. Those mothers, when talking about their childrens difficulties, refer to their own history by recalling their own childhood, when they had also gone through the ?school failure? drama. The methodological approach is based on the theoretical horizon of the French Discourse Analysis, which allows me to look at the discourses as meaning producing, and to reconstruct the trajectory of the historical and social processes that constitute them. I try to understand those subjects who have been determined by their histories, whose childhood experiences have not only marked their unconscious minds but have also resurfaced in their discourses through the experiences they go through again with their own children. Under this perspective, I do not see school failure as a manifestation of incapability by the subject but as a symptom which is, in a certain way, manifested by the child as an attempt to rise within the mother?s desire
