RESUMO

The objective of this work is to estimate the potential of the electric energy surplusproduced by cogeneration in the babassu (Orbignya spp (palmae)) oil extraction sector in Brazil. In order to accomplish this, the biomass availability associated to this palm tree was analyzed for 3 scenarios: 1.168 millions of tons per year of energetic biomass (endocarp and mesocarp) for the first scenario, corresponding to the present oil production situation; second scenario, with an optimized collecting system increasing ftom 26 to 65% of collected ftuits, resulting in 2.922 millions of tons per year of biomass (endocarp and mesocarp) and finally, an analysis of the potential over the whole nation territory considering soil and climate. As part of this work the matter constituting the ftuit was tested: epicarp (peel), mesocarp (starch flour), endocarp (wooden part) and kemel, in order to obtain the physical properties such as heating value, density, ultimate and proximate analysis, thermogravimetric curves in inert atmosphere and in oxidizing regime. To analyze the electric energy generation potential, the energetic matrix for oil extraction plant was studied consideringthe use of a vapor cycle with an xtraction-condensationturbine, and vapor generation in three different levels of pressure and temperature. The potential of electric energy surplus found varies as a function of the technology employed. Considering the vapor generation at 4.56 MPa and 420°C and turbine operating in regime of extraction-condensation in industry of extraction and treatment of crude babassu oil and 6.2 MPa and 450°C for more verticalized plants with associated products as the better options, the potential of electric energy generation would be ofthe order of 104.6MW for the first scenario, 262MWfor the second scenarioand 662MW for the third scenario
