RESUMO

The present thesis studies the songs that became traditional in the capoeira universe. It analyses their relations to social transformations in Brazil, occurring in the beginning of the 20th century, and their recording process by ethnography and the recording industry. It presents the process of acceptance and adaptation of capoeira in the face of the construction of political and ideological powers of Brazilian society and their relation to the different societal spheres. It proposes an analyses of the songs as an element of a discourse of capoeira for itself, for the communities where it flourishes, and for society in general, in the face of historical, global and specific processes.
