RESUMO

The concept of Business Intelligence (BI) covers several technologies that make easy the achievement and visualization of information and, as in a competitive enterprise, the university management must update itself, so it adopts the use of processes that assist on a decision making, which also meet with ability and quality the society demands. The Information Systems (IS) are essential elements and must be more than routine processing activities, since they will contribute to the strategic point of view. The Western Paraná State University (UNIOESTE) has several IS that store a lot of data, on the other hand, its users still have difficulty on obtaining information according to their intended format. Thus, this trial aimed at researching BI technologies, mainly On-Line Analytical Processing (OLAP) and at implementing a prototype application that will make easy the retrieval of information at the Pro-rectory of Planning (PROPLAN), whose sources are many IS from UNIOESTE. In order to reach that goal, an approach based on a qualitative research was developed, as an exploratory/descriptive research through literature and public documents. As a result, a prototype was developed with a Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS) tool, a component of Microsoft SQL Server 2008, composed with the Excel 2010 spreadsheet editor, as an end-user interface. As part of the evaluation process, the SUS questionnaire was used to measure user satisfaction on using the same prototype, in which the average score, given by the participants, was 91.5 on a scale from 0 to 100, thus making a very positive evaluation. As the result was a prototype, it is expected that UNIOESTE supports this initiative as well as invests in training and encourages more people to contribute to the implementation of BI projects at UNIOESTE in order to meet the users needs, which in this trial is represented by PROPLAN.
