RESUMO

The miscibility of polyamide (PA)/ poly-(methyl methacrilate) (PMMA) blends was investigated. Emphasis was dane on the morphology of mixtures obtained by different preparation methods. Films of polyamides-6, 6/9 and 12 and PMMA were prepared from solutions in m-cresol. The PA-6/ PMMA blend showed clearly the highest miscibility. This blend was then prepared from solutions in formic acid with different compositions. Morphological changes were evident and could be discussed using thermodynamic arguments and hypothetic ternary phase diagrams. The final morphology was also governed by the relative velocity of crystallization and phase separation. PA-6/PMMA blends were algo obtained by extrusion/injection. Mechanical properties were evaluated and dynamic-mechanical analysis allowed the calculation of the segregation degree of different mixtures. The morphology of the extruded blends was investigated by transmission and scanning electron microscopy as a function of the injection direction and distance from the sample skin. A polyamide-polyether block copolymer was used as compatibilizer for the system with a considerable increase of adhesion between the domains and matrix.
