Avulsão Dentária: Efeito da informação na mudança de comportamento em diferentes grupos profissionais

RESUMO

Dental avulsion is very common during sports practice at school environments or during leisure time. Professors, coaches and the public in general frequently asked to provide first aid in such urgencies. First aids are crucial for the prognosis of the avulsed tooth. With the objective to evaluate the influence of educational work among different group of professionals regarding knowledge, prevention, and urgency tooth management, there were selected five professional groups (first grade teachers, physical education teachers, bank clerks, surgeon-dentists and doctors), who belong to Unions in Brasília, in the Federal District region, Brazil. The evaluation was made by means of 2 questionnaires. One was applied before de lecture, in order to evaluate the professionals knowledge on the subject; and the other was applied 2 months after the lecture, to verify the professionals gain of knowledge and, naturally, to evaluate the influence of the information delivered. The results on the 479 questionnaires answered were formatted, assessed and analyzed statistically by the Softwares SAS (Institute Cary, NC) and SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences SPSS Inc, Chicago). In addition, to evaluate the difference between the responses given on the questionnaires applied before and after the lecture, it was utilized the Wilcoxon test. In all groups of professionals it was observed a statistically significant change in the responses given by participants after the information delivered (p <0,0001). In the first questionnaire, it was observed a lack of knowledge on the subject and on the adequate actions to be taken in a dental trauma. On the other hand, it was verified a substantial improvement on the responses after receiving information on the lecture. This way, it shows the importance of knowledge on the subject for prompt care of this traumatic injury. It was concluded that Education is extremely important to favor the knowledge of prevention, emergency handling of an avulsed tooth and, consequently, it may better dental avulsion prognosis.
