RESUMO

The study of spermatogenic process is extremely important, subsiding with basic information the development and sedimentation of technologies in attended reproduction. Although the maned wolf is the biggest dog of Americas, much little are know regarding its testicular morfofisiology, including spermatogenesis. In this study it was stimated that in the maned wolf about 12,0 primary spermatocites are produced from spermatogonia of the type A. To the meiotic yield was around 1,9 cells, what is equivalent to a loss of 53% in the meiotic process; the general yield of spermatogenesis was 22,6 cells. Each Sertoli cell is capable to support about 7,6 rounded spermatids. The total duration of seminiferous epithelium cycle was about 8,99 days; 4,5 cycles are necessary to the spermatogenesis process so 40,45 days were necessary from spermatogonia of the type A till spermatozoa. The maned wolf, with approximately twenty nine million spermatozoa per gram of testicle per day, is classified in the highest spermatogenic efficiency species.
