RESUMO

Researches about institutional evaluation occur in Brazil since the 80s, but has intensified from the 90 years. During this period, the different educational policies implemented several programs to monitor and evaluate higher education. Each government searched with this improve the quality of teaching and thus justify their spending in this area, while providing more qualified professionals to the market. In this context the present research intends to continue the search for knowledge about the institutional auto evaluation (AAI) based on the questions: "how the Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM) teachers perceive the AAI process of the Institution?" And "in the perception of teachers, changes in the AAI process of UFSM in the last decade, have brought improvements?". The planned objectives were (a) know the process of creation and transformation of the AAI of the UFSM, (b) assess the satisfaction of teachers with the AAI of the UFSM, (c) to compare teachers satisfaction with the AAI in 2001 and 2011 researches and (d) know the main factors to facilitate or hamper involved in AAI. The methodology used in this research was a descriptive study, which were administered two questionnaires. The first checked the level of teachers satisfaction with the process of AAI in a sample of 217 teachers. The second was answered by 27 members of the evaluation committee and identified the factors that main interfere with the AAI. Data obtained were analyzed with the help of SPSS software to perform descriptive statistics and compare the means with t test and ANOVA. The main results show that teachers perceive the AAI process of the UFSM between regular and good, but the communication process needs to be improved. And comparing the researches conducted in 2001 and 2011, it was noted that the 45 items surveyed, 49% maintained the same level of satisfaction, improved 4% and 47% have a lower satisfaction. In relation to the main factors that can hamper the process of AAI are (i) disbelief in order to treat the results, (ii) the lack of tradition in the AAI and (iii) the reaction to changes. And the main factors that can facilitate the process of AAI are (i) awareness of the importance of evaluation, (ii) clearly define the objectives of the evaluation and (iii) confidence in the evaluation process.
