Avaliação dos procedimentos de acabamento e polimento sobre a rugosidade superficial de resinas compostas

RESUMO

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the in vitro surface roughness of Herculite XR V, Z 100 and T etric composite samples, subjected to different finishing and polishing procedures. A set of twenty-four 8mm diameter, 2mm thick samples was prepared for each studied material, using the incremental technique for mold filling. A sixty-second exposure to visible light was necessary to set the samples. The activating unit used was Visilux 2 (3M). After setting, the samples were stored in an oven, at 37°C and 100% relative humidity for 24 hours. Afterwards, each group of samples was subjected to the finishing and polishing procedures with different types of materials and abrasives. E,ach finishing and polishing procedure lasted approximatel y 2 minutes. The finishing procedure was carried out with the aid of an air-water spray, high speed handpiece, moved straight on a one and on1y direction. An air-cooled, low-speed handpiece was used for the polishing procedures. The surfaces of the samples were evaluated before and after each procedure and the reading that was ~sed was the arithmetic mean value between the peaks and valleys scanned by the surface t According to t he results, the finishing procedures with 30 blade burs, and polishing with Viking (grey and green) silicone abrasives + gel, Sof Lex (fine and extra-fine) discs and Enhance + Prisma Gloss, have produced roughness indexes without significant statistical differenceS for Herculite XRV, Z 100 and Tetric. The finishing procedures with F and FF diamond points and polishing procedures with Viking (grey and green) silicone abrasives + gel showed roughness indexes with significant statistical differences when compared to the polishing procedures with Sof- Lex (fine and extra-fine) disks or Enhance + Prisma Gloss, for Herculite XRV and Z 100. It has also been observed that the finishing procedures with diamond points and polishing procedures with Viking (grey and green) silicone abrasives + gel, I Sof-Lex (fine and extra-fine) disks and Enhance + Prisma Gloss didn t show significant statistical differences for Tetric composite
