RESUMO

The losses in a system of water supply may represent a large percentage of the total water supplied, depending on age, the applied pressure and the deterioration of the system. This paper presents the water losses occurring in water supplies and various control mechanisms available to avoid them. The aim is to correlate the loss of a real system and the same industry with minimum supply pressure through the use of vacuum-pressure control (SS) and frequency inverters, these scenarios, simulated using the software Epanet and calibrated by software Epanet Calibrator (Abe 2009). With the Water Balance before and after applying the methodology, we observed a significant reduction in the loss of the real system. It follows therefore that the use of pressure reducing valves and frequency converter are effective in combating the system loss of water supply, they represent a relatively small initial investment with an immediate reduction in physical losses of the system.
