RESUMO

This dissertation aims to evaluate the behaviors that firms adopt when inserted in production networks, in order to identify the predominant behavior. The study is based on the premise that the types of behavior vary between competition (high and low) and cooperation (idem). According to the analysis model proposed, the dimensions that define the types of behavior are trust which can be unfolded into components transparency, honesty and interpersonal relationship and flexibility subdivided into components proactivity and reconfiguration. For each component, its suggested a set of indicators. The predominant behavior can be identified through a questionnaire, assembled based on the indicators of the analysis model and in qualitative scales. The answers to the questionnaire allow the calculation of a value to each dimension, what corresponds to the coordinates of the matrix TrustFlex Trust X Flexibility, where the predominant behavior can be found. Three production networks of the local market were researched, where the questionnaire was responded by the leaders subcontracted firms. The model was verified based on Spearmans and Wilcoxons tests and the results suggest the consistency of the relations proposed to behavior and its dimensions, to components transparency and honesty and trust, and to flexibility and its components. The correlation between component interpersonal relationship and trust was not revealed statistically significant. However, these tests may not be considered conclusive, and other checks are recommended, in order to consolidate the model. It was also possible to identify the predominant behaviors in each researched networks. For two of those, the results found low competition were according to that which had been projected, based on the theoretical studies and on the characteristics of the researched networks between low competition and low cooperation. For the other network, are presented possible explanations to the disagreement between calculated high cooperation and awaited results equal to the two others.
