RESUMO

The oral rehabilitation needs a great sum of knowledge for the obtain of the functional and aesthetic success, which is the purpose of ali the efforts, during the clinical procedures. A lot of times, patients rehabilitated with total prostheses end up developing functional alterations of the stomathognatic system, althought they show no signs, their alterations can be detected in the activities of the muscles related with the mastication, and as consequence, also alterations in the kinetics of the condile during the mandibular movements . These alterations can be perpetuated and/or worsened, if a correct clinical conduct is not accomplished to normalize the functional activity of the muscles previously to the rehabilitation. The treatment with oclusal plane splints previously the prosthetic rehabilitation was instituted to harmonize the muscular activity and the kinetic condylar. The gothic arch tracing was obtained before and after the treatment with splints and prosthetic rehabilitation of each one of the patients. Soon afterwords, the patients were submitted to computerized electromyographic evaluation of the anterior temporalls and masseter muscles. The evaluation of the gothic arch tracing showed that after the treatment happened an increase in the amplitude of the same amount during the movements lateroprotrusive and protrusive, as well as a reduction in the deflection of medium line. The electromyographic analysis showed there were no significant difference between anterior temporalls and masseter muscle
