RESUMO

Titanium and its alloys have an excellent biocompatibility, corrosion resistance, low specific gravity, low cost and mechanical proprieties that are nearly equal to those of dental gold alloys, justifying its use in prostheses appliance. However, there is a lack of comparative studies that measure the combination with available low fusing porcelain. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of two different metal substrates (commercially pure titanium, Ti-2 or grade II and alloy Ti-6AI-4V, Ti-5 or grade V) combined to three distinct low fusing ceramic systems commercially available on bond strengh and nature of porcelain-metal fracture, and to compare the results to a combination of palladium-silver (Pd-Ag) alloyNMK 68 Duceram porcelain. Three point bending strength and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), were used to determine the bond strength and nature of porcelain-metal fracture. Sixty metal strips measuring 25x3xO.5mm were made - 30 of titanium grade II and 30 of titanium grade V, and on one side of their central portion it was applied a porcelain amount whose dimensions were 8x3x1 mm. In both groups of metal strips, ten specimens received Vitatitankeramik porcelain, ten Triceram porcelain, and ten Duceratin porcelain. The control group consisted of ten specimens Pd-Ag alloy/ VMK68 porcelain Duceram. Statistical analysis were made by one way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tuckey test at 5% significance level. Results showed that the bond strength of the control group was statistical higher (47.98Mpa) then the group of Ti grade II respectively, Vitatitankeramik 30.82MPa, Triceram 26.58MPa, Duceratin 22.72MPa and Ti grade V respectively, Vitatinkeramik 27.18MPa, Triceram 25.53MPa and Duceratin 22.90MPa. In the other hand, for both substrates, when Duceratin porcelain was applied - Ti grade 11 (22.72MPa) and Ti grade V (22.90 MPa), the results were statistically diferents then Ti grade II / Vitatitankeramik (30.82MPa). The analysis of SEM indicated a predominance of adhesive fractures for the groups Ti grade II and Ti grade V, and cohesive fracture for control group Pd-Ag / Duceram
