RESUMO

This study aim to evaluate finishing system (precocious and young steers), sex (female, male) and diet effects on the leather characteristics of crossed bovines. It was used 45 animals, being 25 young steers feedlot system and 20 animals in pastures system, receiving supplement protein-energetic. The animals were slaughtered with 26 months and the leathers processed in tanneries until the semifinished stage. where have been withdrawals the samples from the bodies of samples from region of the back-slope about to the rehearsals physical-mechanics, traction and tearing. Samples have been stored in oven with temperature and humidity controlled for 48 hours, and after that period have been realized the quizzes physical - mechanics. The data had been arranged in delineation block-type casualizados how much to the sex and the system of termination. The variable had been evaluated: slaughter weight (SW), thickness of subcutaneous fat (TSF), leather weight in the slaughter (LWS), standard leather weight (SLW), leather area (LA) and lost standardization (LS). It had effect of the production system for SW, TSF, LWS and Lost. The smaller averages were the females in pastures system. The TSF, LWS and lost averages of castrated males in pastures system was inferior compared to the averages of animal finished in feedlot. However it did not have significant effect of the termination system on SW, SLW and area. The results was 473.60 kg; 40,60 kg and 4,52 m, for feedlot system animals and 462,83 kg, 29,77 kg and 4.31 m, for the precocious system, respectively. In assays physicist-mechanics, There was significant effect of the starch source in the concentrate for the body-of-test, the leather of animals that had received maize presented comparative greater resistance to that they had received sorghum. In analyses sex effect, the leather of the females had presented resistance greater superior to castrated and not-castrated males averages.
