RESUMO

Clinical experience has shown that technical procedures for dental prosthesis face problems regarding the faithfulness of the reproduction of the original mode!. These problems involve not only the modeling material properties, but also the properties of the material used to manufacture the working mode!. Within this context, gypsum (types IV and V) has been the material chosen to obtain working models for prosthetic purposes. The aim of this work was to evaluate dimensional changes of casts manufactured with gypsum types IV and V. These casts were obtained from silicone models polymerized by Aquasil addition, using metallic matrices simulating total crown preparation with cervical end in straight protrusion and with different widths. Gypsum cast dimensions were measured using comparator microscope and the results showed lower values when compared to results obtained from metallic matrices. When the gypsum type was considered, statistically significant differences were noted in the cast dimensions. Casts manufactured using gypsum type V presented dimensions closer to the ones found when using metallic matrices
