RESUMO

Dissertation presented to the Institute for Technological Research from the State of São Paulo IPT, with the aim of obtaining the Masters Degree in Computer Engineering. São Paulo, 2004. This document refers to resource application in Information Technology for project management in companies. The paper presents the implementation of a method to automate the PMBOK processes in project management, with the potential of being optimized for each distinct company. After implementing this method, companies at initial stages of maturity in project management have the capacity to evolve to a higher stage, in shorter periods of time. It identifies the main problems, difficulties, barriers and reasons for the failure of projects, as detected by managers. The method, based on practices and recommendations from the PMBOK (Project Management Body of Knowledge) and the OO (Object Orientation) paradigm is used to study the relationship between management processes and behavior in the field of knowledge, as a way of adapting this method to each individual company. The method to be implemented consists in transforming the PMBOK management processes into models oriented to objects, following the application of OO techniques, to obtain an optimized methodological process for the company. The resulting methodological process will be made up of seven phases, with clearly defined activities: integration, initiation, planning, control, execution and closing, thus concluding the phase with an upgrade phase after the implementation. The underlying conceptual theory involves concepts relating to project management; critical success factors in management and implementation, the project leader or manager, organizations and their structures, maturity in project management, methods and standards. Similar therefore to the concepts presented in the PMBOK practices and recommendations and in the object orientation paradigm.
