RESUMO
Our dissertation attempts to investigate the Catholic Fraternal Associations that were founded by negroes in the city of Goiás (GO), during the 19th.century. We start with the hypothesis that these institution may have served as space for the reconstruction of the identity of these african people in Goiás. To arrive at this conclusion, we try to contextualize historically the origin and the presence of the predominant ethnic groups in Goiás, showing that their cultural and religious traits are constitutive elements of their identity. We also identify the origens of these institutions (irmandades) and the elements that were reinterpreted by the negro members who were associate in them, in the social and religious context of the diaspora in Goiás.
