RESUMO

This dissertation presents a multidisciplinary approach of the study of Tourism starting from a research held at the city of Bananal in Vale do Paraiba Paulista. Using interviews with different social groups, and researching about the transformations occurred in the city after the arrival of Tourism, the work tries to know this social phenomenons dynamic in its capacity to reorganize the urban space either in its morphological aspects or in urban life. The analysis of the different testimonies arises concepts like identity, product fetish and symbolic capital, which penetrate the development of tourism in the city, and are discussed under the light of Social Sciences, specially Sociology. It has also the purpose of discussing elements of the official history and social involvement in the construction of new local opportunities.
