RESUMO

This study deals with the applicability of the System "Lean Construction" of production, in great companies of civil construction of the sector of constructions of the Region Metropolitan of Recife, identifying if the principles of the "Lean" are total or partially applied in these companies. A company of civil construction will be more competitive, from the efficiency of its system of production, in terms of structure, infrastructure, quality, planning and control. The basic weapon of the competitiveness finishes then being the rational planning them activities of production. The concern with wastefulness, control of losses and reduction of the costs, although to be an important factor for any process or productive sector, in the case of the sector of civil construction, he was relegated as the plain one during many years, data the characteristic delay of the proper sector. According to Formoso et al. (2000), several diagnostics carried through in Brazil and the exterior indicate that the majority of the problems that result in low platforms of efficiency and quality in the civil construction has origin in management problems. In this context, considerable efforts on the part of the companies have been directed in the direction to introduce in the sector modern management philosophies, some of which developed initially in other industries, as it is the case of the "Lean Construction", derived from the concept of "Lean Production". The inquiry was lead through interviews, with half-structuralized questionnaire, carried through in certified companies of civil construction related to the sector of constructions located in the Region Metropolitan of Recife
