RESUMO

The post punching behavior of a reinforced concrete flat slab building was investigated, as consequence of punching failures resulting in partial or total residual resistance of the connections. Three buildings were analyzed using the Brazilian software TQS (13th version). The connections punching resistances were checked using Brazilian Code NBR 6118: 2003, EUROCODE 2:2002 and ACI 318M: 2005. The Brazilian Code NBR 6118: 2003, the CEBFIP MC90:1993 and a process proposed by Melo (1990) were adopted for determining the post punching reinforcement. Yield line theory was used for checking the contribution of flexural reinforcement in helping the floor after punching failure in some connections occurred. It was observed for the first example that, according the codes EUROCODE 2:2002 and NBR 6118:2003, P3 connection would not support the increased load and bending moments that would follow a punching failure at P2 connection, and that could lead to a progressive collapse. At the second example was observed that P3 and P15 connections would not support the increased load and bending moments that would follow punching failure at P2 and P14 connections, and that could also lead to a progressive collapse. The third structure was not susceptible to a progressive collapse following a punching failure. The yield line analyses showed that the three structures would have a resistance reserve that would help them in not allowing progressive collapses.
