RESUMO

The development of swine breeding made evident the need for greater attention to the issue of treatment and destination of swine wastes. Among the alternatives for environmental sanitation, the most advantageous one shows to be the biodigesters, since they add value to the process by means of the by-products generated: biogas, mainly made out of methane and regarded as an alternative source of power, and the biofertilizer. The objective of this paper is to elaborate a computational device to obtain power balance of a system to raise swine using biodigesters to treat wastes. The methodology involves the quantification of input and output of direct and indirect power of a production system in a swine farm for a period of one month. The power related to each component involved in the production process is calculated, and the power input/output relationship is obtained. With the utilization of biogas as a source to produce mechanical power, electrical power is also generated, which represents a positive feedback in the power balance of the production system. The algorithm developed and the corresponding computational applicative are evaluated from a simulation in a case study in Campo Grande, MS. In analyzing the simulations, it is seen that the swine breeding activity presents a low systemic power yielding; and the biogas as a primary source of power generation is one of the alternatives for the improvement of power efficiency in the production system.
