RESUMO

The aim of this study is to analyze and describe the absenteeism among the Primary Health Care workers in Amparo, an upstate county of Sao Paulo State, Brazil, in the years of 2006 and 2009. It is a descriptive study, by the sick leaves (SL) in Primary Health Services, which are registered at the Center of Worker Health Reference of the district, in the years of 2006 and 2009. Only the licenses greater or equal than three days were analyzed. There were only analyzed the professionals who acts exclusively in Primary Health Team Workers (PHT). The data were registered, tabulated and analyzed in Excel files. The number of professionals was of 229 in 2006 and 240 in 2009. They were analyzed according to sex, of age, time of service, position or function. The number of SL was 149 and the number of missed day reached to 1634 days. The General index of absenteeism was 0.073 in 2006 and 1.17 in 2009. Regarding professional occupations, the highest rate of absenteeism in the year 2006 was among dentists, followed by the auxiliary services. In 2009, nurses were the most affected followed by the auxiliary services again. The severity index was 3,6 days for both years. The licenses main cause was related to the mental disorders, Chapter Six of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD - 10th edition). This theme presents is extremely relevant because of the great impact it causes to the society and for the teamwork. It can also cause diseases specially in the mental dimension, characterized by depersonalization, emotional exhaustion and low accomplishment (Dejours, 1992). Its impact gives as much as to the quality of services offered to the population, as well as in the cost of the public health, so much regarding the Social Service, causing direct and indirect costs to the Unique Health System. The most important point, the absenteeism may indicate a low level assistance for the clients and for the health professional team.
