RESUMO

This work was meant to analyze the variation of gender concordance between the subject and the predicate in the variety of the Portuguese language spoken in the rural area of State of Paraná, colonized between Centuries XVII and XIX, called Traditional Paraná. The theoretical and methodological construct from the Variationist Sociolinguistics gives support to the research work based on the use of the rule: presence of gender concordance between the subject and the predicate. The corpus used in this study was obtained from interviews made during the field research for the elaboration of the linguistic atlas of Paraná - Atlas Lingüístico do Paraná ? ALPR - (AGUILERA, 1994) and these are presented in three versions: Atlas Lingüístico do Paraná (AGUILERA, 1990a) ? sound databank, original; Atlas Lingüístico do Paraná (AGUILERA, 1990b) ? typed version in 13 disks; Atlas Lingüístico do Paraná (AGUILERA, 1990c) ? printed version, 13 volumes. The subjects, a total of 40, are grouped by sex, age (30 to 46 and 47 to 65 years old) and educational background (illiterate and educated). The analyzed data were treated statistically in order to determine the most significant conditioning factors for the production of the phenomenon under research. The statistics program used in the research was VARBRUL, in a more recent version, GOLDVARB 2001 (ROBINSON, LAWRENCE &TAGLIAMONTE, 2001).
