RESUMO

The main purpose of this dissertation is to analyze the philosophical and ontological assumptions about the monistic idea from the thinking of the german physicist Werner Heisenberg. They are remarkable efforts in the twentieth century to find a unified theory of matter or, to use the title of this dissertation, a ontological unity of the real. Throughout his works Heisenberg is constantly returning to the theme of a unified theory that describes the reality since only one substance, in both sense physical and philosophical. While he discuss about the philosophical aspect of the problem, Heisenberg recognize, among the presocratics, who first made efforts to try to understand the nature of unified way. This dissertation takes the link made by Heisenberg, between the physics contemporary and the presocratics philosophers as a basis to think a possible ontological unity of reality. It shows the mains aspects of the development of the conception atomist of matter and of the physics of particles in twentieth century. For, at last, to deal with the main theme of this work which is to establish the physical and philosophical foundations of this vision unified of the universe
