RESUMO

This paper is the first part of a study supported by Núcleo de Pesquisas e Publicações da Fundação Getulio Vargas, with the objective of analyzing the structural transformation in the Brazilian Football. So far we concentrated on the clubs, in their search of being professional as a new managing paradigm. The bibliography was revised with the analysis divided into four parts: the first one is the need of the club in being professional; the second one is a history of the football business until we reach our days; the third one tries to find the ideal organization paradigm of the club for this new era of professionalism; and the fourth one studies the Manchester United as a benchmarking for the football clubs that are searching the new success model of strategic management for business.
