RESUMO

This dissertation deals with the conditions for the practice of inter-disciplinary research in undergraduate courses of administration as a possible strategy for the integration of curricular contents, now fragmented by the dissociation of course subjects. First, basic concepts related to this problem are discussed. The field of empirical study is the schools of administration of the State of Pernambuco (Brazil), where that practice is not institutionalized yet. They are represented by a sample of ten schools. Data for analysis were: pedagogical projects, interviews with course coordinators and questionnaires by teachers. Results show that real practice does not match pedagogical projects, as several schools not even develop research work. According to course coordinators, the main condition to make inter-disciplinary research feasible is to enlarge regular stay of teachers in school. Notwithstanding this important condition, teachers seem to point, before it, cultural conditions, mainly the promotion of a climate of innovation and quality of knowledge, as the essential factor for the development of that type of research
