RESUMO

The present study aims to understand the built of pediatric working object in clinical assistance to children, by using the pediatric speech analysis about the childhood. The empirical data was based on interviews with nine pediatricians who reported how their clinical experience was developed during the school and professional lives in the medical-pediatric field. Some theoretical principles exploited in the analytical perspectives of some authors like M. Foucault, L. Althusser, M. Pecheux and E. Orlandi were used in this study. It was considered that the pediatric focus is interpellated by the "childhood" social category, in a way that its attention is diverted from the sick body to the infant body of the children. Therefore, as the pediatric field evolved as a childhood protection system, the clinical pediatric practice aimed to consider not only the "sick body" (biomedical problem) but also the "infant body" (social-medical problem) of children. The testimonies analysis showed how the pediatrics practice defines specific limits to the role of the expert and non-expert children care provider, from an existent tension between the pediatric and familial relationship fields. Finally, we tried to identify an infancy typology based on the pediatric clinical assistance, from where the medical attention is organized by the childhood development stages
