RESUMO

The present research has as its object of study, the landscaping in the open spaces of BelÃm, characterized by elements of the Amazonian landscape. The objective of the research is to identify, in the landscaping plan and in the existent reality, formal elements which characterize the Amazonian landscape. To achieve this objective, the empirical object of analysis adopted was the plan, the reality and the usage of the Parque NaturalÃstico Mangal das GarÃas. Previous to the park analysis, a descriptive historical overview through the city landscape between the XVII and XXI centuries was done. The park analysis and this overview took place not only to identify formal Amazonian landscape elements present in the visited spaces but also to build the previous knowledge about the landscape of BelÃm.This research was necessary for the analysis of the empirical object. The methodological procedure of the research was defined based on theoretical works that deal with concepts of landscaping, the ecology of landscaping and of the landscaping plan. Iconographic research, interviews and field observation were also means employed to carry out the studies. This investigation led us to conclude that both, the plan and the built park, have formal elements that enable the identification of the Amazonian landscape in the landscaping
