RESUMO

One of the most common and serious tension that separates the families is infidelity. This subject is here analysed in order to understand what makes the human being commit adultery and what means are used by the couple to structure the conjugal relationship again. This qualitative study was made by the discourse analysis whose bases were built from the reading and analysis of interviews. Five family systemic therapists were selected to answer a research tool through a semi-structured interview. Based on the perspective of The Systemic Theory, the psychological aspects of infidelity were analysed to assess the factors that stimulate the partners to commit adultery as well as their respective reactions. The lack of intimacy, the difficulty the couples have to solve problems and the conjugal crisis provocated by the betrayal of one of the partners are themes of discussion. Furthermore, we searched for the strategies that the couple uses to deal with the consequences of the betrayal and the elements of the familiar dynamics to understand the situations that contribute to the infidelity.
