RESUMO

This study presents the various processes of socioeconomic occupation of the south of Bahia and especially the implications arising out socio tourism. With the opening of BR 101 in the mid-1950, and its asphalt in the early 1970s. tourism has developed and has found itself as the regions main economic activity, due to its numerous tourist resources. New forms of (re)order the physical space, follows the intervention of the State in parallel with the Prodetur NE, from the 1990s, when tourism was at its stage of saturation. Thus, the Program for Development of Tourism in the Northeast, is Porto Seguro and its surroundings, aiming at expandind and / or modernization of tourist infrastructure. This rapid urban growth in Porto Seguro, is not made in conjunctions with any kind of adequate planning, creating thereby a disordenely occupation of urban space. This city grew, but without a proper monitoring of basic infrastructure such as water system, supply of electric power and paving the streets, apart from occupying building, the change of scenery and adulteration, the displacement of populations, the seasonal population growth and the consequent increase in the production of sewage and garbage, etc. In this context, and considering that tourism became, in recent years as a social phenomenon and important factor of economic development through the upgrading of local resources available and consequently boosting the local and regional economy, the government has encouraged the development of activity tourist choosing it as an outlet for the local population growth. However, the national tourism policies must be reconsidered in light of the very dynamics of activity, while ensuring the sustainability with a model for planned tourism development in order to maintain its permanence in the long term, integrating the local population and minimizing or, in best-case scenario, the elimination of socioenvironmental and cultural implications.
