RESUMO

This research aims to investigate and debate the Conception of Holy in the Religious Teaching context in the Elementary School at the Brazilian Public Schools. The cause of investigating this theme occurred by the need of clarifying the object of this discipline, establishing its reason and the construction of its contents. The theoretical foundation of the research is based, mainly, in Eliade, Berger, Otto, Geertz and Boff, who salient a comprehension of dimension of the Holy in a more complex and broader way overcoming the understanding of Holy brought by the institutionalized religiosity. In the Educational and pedagogical perspective, the referential adopted was Freire. This research has a qualitative nature, supported on bibliographical and documental analysis. Since the searching and theoretical and epistemological study about the conception of Sacred, it was accomplished the analysis in some documents guiding this discipline in national and state level. This research identified that the Religious Teaching requires a theoretical and epistemological support, which permits having the Holy as its main referential, and recommends the existence of identification of the Holy as the basis at this discipline. From the analyzed documents, it could be noticed that the perception of Holy is very tenuous and little consistent. At last, it was verified that the Religious Teaching proposed, nowadays, for schools from the public teaching net can not explain the conception of Holy investigated in this research.
