RESUMO

The topic of this thesis is the house. It could be any house, but it is the house of the rural area of Goiás, from the Meia Ponte region ? currently called Pirenópolis ? dating from the 19.th century: a house that unfolds into others, whether they are annexes and counterparts, or even city houses. It is a house that, like all of them, plays the role of a frontier, as it embodies the confluence of different worlds. Thus, its universality can be inferred from three biases ? the house cam be viewed as an artefact, a representation, and as a place for keeping memories. Several different sources serve to give us these means of understanding it, but the objective is the construction or its intelligibility, made possible by the fact that as a frontier, the house become permeable. This study focuses o two aspects of the ?19 POT. th? ? century rural house of the Meia Ponte region: the fact that it is vernacular and that it complements the urban home. The word vernacular is used in the sense that the house is identified as originating from the place itself, thereby ensuring that it will remain visiable through current times...
