1. Smartphone-Based Screening for Cardiovascular Diseases: A Trend?
Abstract Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death in the world. People living in vulnerable and poor places such as slums, rural areas and remote locations have difficulty in accessing medical care and diagnostic tests. In addition, given the COVID-19 pandemic, we are witnessing an increase in the use of telemedicine and non-invasive tools for

2. Effect of traffic noise on Scinax nasicus advertisement call (Amphibia, Anura)
ABSTRACT Increased anthropogenic-made sounds such as traffic noises contribute to acoustic pollution, which produces deleterious effect on song-vertebrates. We compared the advertisement call of Scinax nasicus (Cope, 1862) males in natural (as a reference or control, Site A) and Sites affected by traffic noises (Site B). Call structure was recorded and it wa

3. Failure behavior monitoring and evaluation of steel-confined reinforced concrete columns by acoustic emission under quasi-static loading
Abstract The mechanical behavior and failure evolution of steel-confined and unconfined reinforced concrete (RC) columns are investigated under quasi-static loading through acoustic emission (AE) signal. The excellent hysteresis response, lighter damage characteristics and delayed catastrophe of steel-confined RC columns are verified. Characteristic AE param

4. Monitoreo mediante Emisión Acústica de vigas de hormigón de alta resistencia con y sin fibras expuesto a alta temperatura
ABSTRACT The addition of fibers to the cementitious matrix, giving rise to fiber-reinforced concrete, aims to improve the low ductility observed in concrete mechanical response under different load scenarios, particularly under direct tension. In this work, cracking and mechanical degradation processes of concrete elements using acoustic emission technique a

5. Detection and on-line prediction of leak magnitude in a gas pipeline using an acoustic method and neural network data processing
Considering the importance of monitoring pipeline systems, this work presents the development of a technique to detect gas leakage in pipelines, based on an acoustic method, and on-line prediction of leak magnitude using artificial neural networks. On-line audible noises generated by leakage were obtained with a microphone installed in a 60 m long pipeline.

6. Characterization of Swallowing Sounds with the Use of Sonar Doppler in Full-Term and Preterm Newborns
Introduction Technological advances have provided a large variety of instruments to view the swallowing event, aiding in the evaluation, diagnosis, and monitoring of disturbances. These advances include electromyography of the surface, dynamic video fluoroscopy, and most recently sonar Doppler. Objective To characterize swallowing sounds in typical

7. Statistical analysis of acoustic emission signals generated during turning of a metal matrix composite
Acoustic emission technique (AET) has been used to monitor the progress of tool wear during turning of silicon carbide (20 wt.%) dispersed Al alloy metal matrix composite. Acoustic emission (AE) signals generated beyond a specific cutting distance increase abruptly. Statistical analysis based on assumed β distribution of AE energy showed that skewness and k

8. Determination of the relative position between grinding wheel and a cylindrical workpiece on a 7 axis grinding machine by acoustic emission
The contact between grinding wheel and workpiece in the grinding process is recognized by acoustic emission (AE). Two acoustic emission monitoring systems (MS) were integrated into a 3 axis CNC grinding machine. A laptop allows the signal acquisition and visualization. The acquired AE RMS signals from the contact between tool and workpiece are analyzed permi

11. MONITORING FLEXIBLE RISERS WITH OPTICAL FIBER SENSORS / MONITORAMENTO DE RISERS FLEXÍVEIS COM SENSORES A FIBRA ÓPTICA
The interest in structural health monitoring of flexible risers has grown significantly in recent years. For ducts that are already reaching their design life, monitoring systems can provide early warnings of potential failures and also assist the operator in scheduling downtime. Different techniques are being tested by operators of flexible pipes such as au

12. Aplicabilidad del monitoreo de emisiones del arco eléctrico para el control de calidad en el proceso MAG-S
Ensuring quality in welding is not a trivial task. For this purpose several quality control checks are performed, at the expense, costs and production times are increased. There are several automated welding systems and they are assisted by control systems based on monitoring of welding parameters. However, automated quality monitoring systems are limited an
