RESUMO

The entrepreneurship is an emerged theme in the academic means with larger intensity in the last twenty years, having conquered the researchersattention more and more. Among the several research approaches in this thematic one, it is the womens participation in the market place. Nowadays, in the Higher Education Institutions (IES), women are the most in lecturing, but they are still minority among the ones that have been occupying higher positions. In this manner, this research had for purpose to characterize the personal and professional aspects from women managers, as well as the entrepreneur profile. Neverthless, it identified these women managersunderstanding to the entrepreneurship in an IES, where the atmosphere prevails essentially intrapreneurship. The population was composed by 53 women who act in the administration of IES, located in Vale do Itajaí, Santa Catarina, Brazil, in functions linked to the Academic Administration and the Superior Administration. The intentional sample considered this whole population, being a censitary study. The study was transversal in 2007. In its first phase the research was exploratory, with qualitative method, and documental technique, when it characterized the women managers of IES, with basis on consultation to the Curriculum Lattes and documents of the institution. In the second moment, of characterization of the entrepreneur profile, it was used a structured questionnaire, with base in Miner (1998). This phase was descriptive, with quantitative method. In a subsequent moment, from women managers identification with characteristics of more evident behavior entrepreneur, took place a study with the technique of the focus group, through exploratory research, with qualitative method.The results showed that the majority of the women managers (77%) are in their first or second administration, which are Masters (51%) or Doctors (26%), have between 36 and 55 years old (77%) and until 15 years of experience in IES (77%). The entrepreneur profiles of larger predominance are superseller and accomplisher. Some behavior characteristics had larger emphasis in the women managers answers as: need to accomplish, strong compromising with the institution, desire to obtain feedback, determination and faith that the social processes are very important, and the need to maintain solid and positive relationships with the others. And, others, with less emphasis, as: desire of getting power and desire to compete. The understanding on entrepreneurship in an IES, highlighted, per excellence, that the entrepreneurship is connected, among other aspects, to the detachment, relationship, social concern and knowledge. To entrepreneur in an IES, in a general way, in the women managersunderstanding, it is fundamental to have autonomy and macro vision of the environment
